About
I recently defended my dissertation titled "Cosmopolitan Education as Moral Education: Forging Moral Beings Under Conditions of Global Uncertainty" for my Ph.D. in Philosophy and Education. In August 2012 I will join the faculty at Drake University, School of Education, as an Assistant Professor of Secondary Education.
I am interested in cosmopolitan education, education as ethics, and conceptions of international/transnational/global education. I have recently begun investigating the moral dimensions of assessment and whether learning can truly be assessed, particularly in the transient and temporal confines of schooling. Additionally, I am interested in the viability of existing methods of teacher evaluation and the exploration of new alternatives.
I am also interested in political manipulation of education and the ethical issues that result, and the willful ignorance seen in conscious choices to NOT learn in both schools and in daily life (largely through a socially and individually cultivated incuriosity) and the resulting civic and moral implications.
As a Doctoral Research Fellow, I work directly with the Provost and Dean of the College on special projects that range from evaluating the college's research centers and institutes to examining institutional practices and policies.
